Google and Levi's connected clothing

With the Commuter Trucker Jacket Levi’s and Google have integrated technology into fashion. The Jacket has been specifically studied for the urban cyclist. He can now chek his mobile, controlling incoming calls and music, simply touching the left sleeve of his jacket while always remaining aware.

From inventing the first pair of riveted blue jeans in 1873 to creating the Commuter Jacket , Levi’s has always been thinking forward. Together with Google ATAP they have developped the Jacquard technology: special conductive yarns which give interactive and digital functions to a textile product. The jacket has a cuff with touch-enabled fabric. A tag wirelessly connects the conductive yarns in the jacket’s cuff to your mobile device. You can remove the tag, and the entire garment is washable and durable.

The choice of a jacket as the format for the first Jacquard product was also rigorously thought-through. A garment from your wardrobe that you wear frequently, a lifestyle item which is worn almost everyday.

PATTI SMITH

In Parma, has recently started the exhibition “Higher Learning”, a collection of 120 black and white images taken by the poetess of rock Patti Smith with her inseparable Polaroid. Fragments of life immortalized by the artist during her travels around the world. The title of the exhibition is the same of a song from Patti’s latest album “Land”, and refers to the knowledge that comes from the study, but also from experience and from life. “Higher Learning” is a kind of reflection on the act of creating a piece of art and on the passing of time. The photos portray beds, statues, artistic instruments, gravestones, which have belonged to persons who have contributed with their work to the development of the culture.

At “Palazzo del Governatore”, togheter with “Higher Learning” , there is another exbition of photographic works entitled The NY Scene, dedicated to the New York art scenery during the Seventies andEighties, with works by Nan Goldin, Robert Mappletorphe and Andy Warhol.

PATTI SMITH ICON OF STYLE

Patti Smith has many ties with the fashion world. She has a long-term collaboration with the Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester (Smith had even walked down her Parisian catwalk for the AW’06 collection), and she has also been a source of inspiration for brands like Balmain, Yohji Yamamoto and Saint Laurent. She approaches clothes with the same punk attitude she has been approaching her writing and music. Choosing a personal androgynous style, she started to dress like no other woman of the time. She was really one of the first female musicians to wear skinny jeans, tight white t-shirt, leather jackets, boyfriend jackets, combat style boots and oversized white shirts. With her hats and uncombed hair she adopted a look that is now the uniform of so many women rockers. She managed to be unequivocally sexy embodying an androgynous aesthetic, trasforming her clothes in an extension of herself, a perfect reflection of the artist herself.

Repetto is a true institution in the fashion industry and in the dance world and it is renowned for its unique process of fabrication: the “stitch and return”. Mosaert is an independent creative label based in Brussels whose main activities are focused on the music industry, the audio-visual sector and the clothing industry.  It proposes a unisex wardrobe with joyful colours and graphic prints. The collaboration between both companies was born from the desire to offer a full outfit to the consumers by combining their specific skills: footwear an textile. The result:  two pairs of shoes, unique and unisex, to complete Mosaert’s collection made of a t-shirt, a bomber, a knitted jogging pants and socks. As a reminder of the dance world, the collection patterns illustrate pink flamingos on pointe surrounded by greenery.

Ian Berry - A Denim World

When you look at Ian Berry’s works, online, in a print or even up close, you think you are in front of blue toned photographs or indigo coloured oil paintings. Even at touching distance, it’s difficult to realise that you are looking at many layers and shades of denim jeans.  Ian Berry is a young british artist who uses one of the most common item of clothing that unites many around the globe. Denim is his medium for seeing the world. It is an urban fabric for capturing everyday urban life.

He creates urban scenes and has realized commissioned portraits, from Giorgio Armani to Ayrton Senna, to top model Gisele. Only when very close to the works, you become aware of the depth and texture and see how each small piece of denim has been considered and crafted out of jeans with washes, and fades, which help create that painterly tone. Inspiration came noticing a pile of old jeans and noticing the contrasting shades of blue. Some scissors and glue later, Ian has become one of the most talked young artist. MINNA PARIKKA

“My designs are like love letters from one shoe lover to another. Life is too short to take style too seriously.”

Minna Parikka while working on her designs. From: minnaparikka.com

Minna Parikka while working on her designs. From: minnaparikka.com

Minna chose the world of shoe design at the age of 15. She moved to England at 19 to pursue a degree in footwear design, spending the next six years living, working and finding inspiration in London, Milan and Barcelona. In 2005 she returned to her native Helsinki. Here she launched the Minna Parikka brand and in November 2012 she opened her first shop. Minna’s love of footwear is based on the fact that shoes – unlike clothes – don’t have to be inhabited by a body in order to look attractive. When they’re beautiful in their own right, and then a woman steps into them – that’s when the magic happens. The right shoes can change how she looks, feels and is seen by others. Minna’s shoes are crafted in Spain with unparalleled attention to detail. The signature MP look and feel is achieved by using only the finest Italian and Spanish leathers and all the components from sole to shoe lace come from the best suppliers in Europe. Currently her designs are sold in 25 different countries globally in some of the best fashion retailers, such as Harrods, Selfridges, Liberty London, Luisa Via Roma, Le Bon Marché, La Rinascente, Harvey Nichols and Isetan.

Flamingos surprise

The town of Milan hides lots of surprise. Just behind the traffic and caos of Corso Venezia, there is a peaceful area full of liberty buildings which deserves a walk. And in Via Cappuccini 3, through the gates of Villa Invernizzi, you can discover some unexpected flamingos wandering around the garden of the villa and the swimming pool specially built for them. They were imported from Africa and Chile by the owner of the Villa, Romeo Invernizzi, founder of the homonymous dairy firm. These flamingos have been living this place since 1970, they have perfectly adapted and don't wish to fly away.

Oscar Tiye

Behind the name "Oscar Tiye" hides a really famale woman: the designer Amina Muaddi. In 2013, when she started her project, she decided the name after having seen a jewel that the pharaoh gave to the Queen Tiye of ancient Egypt as a wedding gift. Then Oscar is a combination of the names of her grandparents. The logo, which is put on every sole, is a beetle with open wings, a sacred good-luck symbol in the Middle Est.
Amina has Jordanian-Romanian roots. Her base is in Milan, where she studied Fashion Communication at the European Institute of Design. Her collections are totally made in Italy, in the Riviera del Brenta. They are inspired by her Middle Eastern roots and express her femininity, fun and self-confidence.

Flat Mules

Comfortable and versatile, flat mules can be in leather or velvet, with fringes or buckles, even in raffia like those proposed by Clergerie. You can wear them all day long. They can fit well with skinny, boyfriend and high rise jeans, cropped and capri pants, long skirts and long dresses.

High Heels Mules

We have already seen mules this winter, embroidered or lined with fur. They continue to be appreciated by trendsetters and all the most important designers have proposed them in their collections. In fact, you can find different kinds of what we called “sabot”. The high heel versions are more formal and elegant even though those chunky can fit well with a pair of jeans too.

Manolo Blahnik at Palazzo Morando

If you are going to Milan and you are fond of shoes you can’t absolutely miss the retrospective dedicated to the great shoemaker Manolo Blahnik. The creativity of the designer, probably one of the most important names in contemporary fashion, is represented through 80 drawings and about 200 shoes displayed along the halls of Palazzo Morando. He was inspired by nature, architecture and art: elegance is at his best.

There is a section with all the shoes he created for Sofia Coppola’s movie“Marie Antoinette”, after studying the trends of th eighteenth century, a period by which he has always been attracted.

Gray Matters

Gray Matters shoes are like sculptural pieces. They have a unique look becoming like objects to show and win the challenge of being an all day long accessorie. The collection is soshisticated and add contemporary codes to a classic silhouette. Designer Silvia Avanzi inspiration comes by the artistic heritage of her native country Italy and by the hectic lifestyle of her adoptive city New York. Gray Matters is made by three generations of expert shoemakers near Venice in Italy.

Back to Texas

In my opinion texan boots will be one of the main trends of the next two seasons. This winter some good examples were already produced and proposed by some brands. Just right for a concert or for going out in the evening they always give a rock touch to the outfit, even more if combined with star prints or star applications.
