Panna cotta "Ancarani" with beer jelly

Some days ago I had dinner in one of my favourite restaurants: "Trattoria Gallo Rosso" in Filottrano. The chef Andrea Tantucci delighted me and other guests with a super tasty pre-dessert: a "panna cotta" made with brown sugar and beer jelly. When I saw it, I immediately created a mental link with Daniele Ancarani's sandals plexy heel. So I asked Andrea for the recipe and tried to make it at home.

Recipe for 12 small glasses.  For the panna cotta: 400ml of single cream, 100 g of brown sugar, 1.5 gelatin films, vanilla. For the beer jelly: 250 ml of beer, 50 g of white sugar, 2 gelatin films.

GABS STORE IN MILAN

On September 19, the two monobrand stores – Gabs and Campomaggi – property of Campomaggi & Caterina Lucchi SPA company, have been inaugurated in Milan. The shopping space, consisting in two adjoining stores for a total of 100 sqm., is located at 1 Corso Como. For the Gabs brand, this is the first store in Milan, while for Campomaggi it is the second one, after the opening in Via della Spiga in 2016. Both two different concepts have been created by architect Pier Nicola Currà from Cesena.

Gabs was founded in 2000 by designer Franco Gabbrielli in Florence. The family tradition and experience within the leather goods industry dates back to the 70s. After many years, learning and developing bags in the traditional way, Franco decides to take on a challenge of a new major project: to work on “a new concept of bag” where the bag can be transformed, according to the consumer needs. The idea becomes a sensation from the very start, and the clients, attracted by the materials, colours, shapes and functionality, appreciate the new proposal with great enthusiasm.

Today Gabs is an unconventional brand synonym with colour, transformation and innovation. It proposes bags for all day long, lots of different models for all women's need. Each bag comes with an extra shoulder belt, and an extra nylon shopping bag.

Blossom Mania

This winter we are being witness to the incredible explosion of a "blossom mania". Most of ready to wear collections are full of dresses with flowered patterns, testifying that a floral story is not exclusive to spring. Boots, pumps, sandals, sneakers and loafers are decorated with every kind of flowers. Printed on leather, on velvet or on other fabrics. Reminding us to an idea of orientalism or to the shoes of the eighteenth century.

BALENCIAGA "The master of us all"

The spanish couturier Cristòbal Balenciaga opened his first boutique in San Sebastian, Spain, in 1919, when he was 24 years old. In 1937, he moved to Paris where he operated the most exclusive and expensive atelier. To celebrate 100 years of the Maison, the Victoria and Albert Museum of London runs a retrospective exhibition of one of the most avant gard designers (till 18 February 2018). As Balenciaga said: “A couturier must be an architect for the design, a sculptor for the shape, a painter for the colour, a musician for the harmony and a philosopher for the temperance”. The exhibit includes more than 100 garments among which his iconic baby doll dress, envelope dress and cocoon coat, 20 hats, different sketches, photos and fabric samples.

Balenciaga is famous for his innovative silhouettes and dresses construction. He was revered by his contemporaries including Coco Chanel and Christian Dior who called him "the master of us all", and his style has inspired some of the world's most well know designers such as Givenchy, Courrege and modern day designers like Gareth Pugh and Simone Rocha. Today the new creative director of the Maison (which has become one of the luxury branches of François Pinault’s Kering group) is Demna Gvasalia.

Balenciaga said: “A couturier must be an architect for the design, a sculptor for the shape, a painter for the colour, a musician for the harmony and a philosopher for temperance”.

AFROPUNK

Afropunk is a musical festival expressing Black pride and culture. Music sounds, many different styles, colors and beauty compose an explosive mix. The first Afropunk festival takes place in Brooklyn, New York, in 2005. Today, in addition to Commodore Barry Park at Fort Green, there are four new locations: Paris, London, Atlanta and Johannesburg. The name of the festival derives from the title of James Spooner's 2003 documentary, a story about punk minorities in the african-american world, of a black community fond of “white music”. The documentary is also the inspiration of the theme of each edition of the Festival: the rejection of any kind of discrimination in the name of art and music.

There are emerging designers coming from the African world and inspired by their origins.

Velvet interiors. First session: pink.

This winter too "velvet" is one of the main trends. Pink is the new colour besides blue, green and burgundy which were already presented last year. In the interior design as well as for fashion accessories, the pink color perfectly matches with gold and brass.

Carmen Miranda: icon of tropicalism

From Pinterest.

From Pinterest.

Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha, better known as Carme Miranda, was born in Portugal, February 9, 1909. She was a Brazilian samba singer, a dancer, and a Broadway actress, popular from the 1930s to the 1950s and nicknamed "The Brazilian Bombshell". As a young woman, after moving to Brazil with her family, Miranda worked in a boutique of Rio de Janeiro, designing hats and often singing on the job. Before long she was discovered and got a singing job on a local radio station. That attempt proved successful and she went on singing on radio and in clubs. In1930, she had already become the most important interpreter of the increasingly popular samba genre. In 1940, she made her first Hollywood film. It was during this time that Miranda developed the costume with the distinctive fruit hat from the traditional headdress seen on black women fruit sellers. She became famous for this signature fruit hat outfit she wore in her American films, especially in The Gang’s All Here from 1943. Miranda made a total of fourteen Hollywood films between 1940 and 1953 and by 1945 was said to be the highest-paid woman in the US. Icon of the Fifties, the artist died aged 46 in 1955. Her costumes have been collected by her sister and are exhibited in the Carmen Miranda Museum in Rio de Janeiro.

Miranda exotic and extravagant costumes became her trademark. She created a sort " Miranda brand" that has always influenced fashion, from 70s till today. For this spring summer, Charlotte Olympia, has created a collection called “Let’s go Banana” totally inspired by the tropicalism of the “chica chica boom chic” Carmen Miranda.

BIRKENSTOCK SLEEPING SYSTEMS

The footwear brand Birkenstock breaks the boundaries between fashion and interiors launching, at this year’s IMM Cologne furniture fair, six new sleeping systems.

The same principles adopted for creating shoes have been applied in making beds. The feel-good element of the German made sandals has been traslated into mattresses. Just as the Birkenstock footbed fits the natural form of the foot, these mattresses recognise and adapt to the natural contours of the body, ensuring a healthy, restful sleep; healthy stance and healthy position when laying down are complementary aspects of the same well-being philosophy.

To realize the project, the brand has collaborated with Germany's Ergonomie Institut München and has worked with the Austrian upholstered furniture manufacturer ADA. Several of the bases feature undulating beech wood slats in different shapes for various body types. Another bed base features elastic discs that are made of cork, like the brand's shoes, and set on springs to relieve pressure on the body.

BIRKENSTOCK is today one of the top five global footwear brands. The company’s historic roots can be traced as far back as 1774. Since the 1930s, Birkenstock has created orthopaedic footbeds by studying the anatomy of the foot and using natural materials and shape to stabilise it. BIRKENSTOCK became a global player by the late 1970s. Manufactured in Germany, the sandals are sold in 90 countries on all five continents. In addition to the legendary sandals, BIRKENSTOCK also has a growing range of closed-toe, children’s, and work shoes as well as specialist products for orthopedic retailers.

CASTANER SINCE 1927

Castaner was founded un 1927 by two cousins: Luis Castaner and Tomas Serra. They immediately focused on quality creating one of the most iconic shoes: the espadrillas, a popular form of footwear with interlaced natural rope sole that has become a classic of everyone’s summer wardrobe. When family member Lorenzo Castaner and his wife took over the company in 1960, they decided to turn the espadrillas into a more sophisticated product closely associated with design and fashion. They adopted new styles and a multitude of colors and materials. Then in 1970, the chance meeting between Isabel Castaner and Yves Saint Laurent. Together they created the world’s first platform espadrille sandal called: the Campesina. And this was the beginning of collaborations with dozens of other major brands, including Hermes. Today, after 90 years, Castaner shoes, which are sold in over 50 countries around the world, remain authentic as they were in 1927: they continue to be wholly produced in Spain using the same hand-crafting techniques. And the soles are sewn with the same machine Luis Castaner and Serra designed in the 1920s.

From Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe to nowadays trendsetter models like Alex Chung or Jeanne Damas Castaner shoes have always been worn and appreciated by celebs. Flat or wedge, they remain a must have of summer fashion.

New Balance 530 Limited Edition

Today, the Nineties appear to be quite on fashion again in the sneaker world. New Balance, following this trend, proposes one of his classic model dating back to 1990's: the 530 style. The new spring summer season color is white with some inserts in grey or dusty turquoise suede.

These running shoes are not only stylish, they are also remarkable from the point of view of comfort. This thanks to the hidden Encap cushioning technology and to a midsole made by a mix of various density materials which assure flexibility and stability. While the upper is realized with suede and mash making them transpiring and resistant.

These sneakers are perfect for leggings, skynny jeans and why not for a mini-dress.

PRIMAVERA SOUND 2017

Primavera Sound is one of Europe's biggest music festivals. It is held in Barcelona, at Parc Del Forum, and attracts lot of people coming from everywhere in Europe and not only. This thanks to his varied line-up which can satisfy different musical tastes, from rock to underground to house and techno. This year have played Arcade Fire, The XX, Aphex Twin, veteran rockers like The Slayer,  the inimitabile Grace Jones whose concerts are always a big fantastic show, Bon Iver, Metronomy, and rappers like Run the Jewels. There were two huge stages for the biggest acts, four mid-sized stages where we have listened to Angel Olsen, Wild Beasts, Sleaford Mods and Black Angel, an area specialized in electronic music, and some other smaller stages providing a platform to more underground and indie names like Gold Class. There was even an indoor auditorium just outside the main festival grounds where we have enjoyed the evocative sounds of the Magnetic Fields. During this edition there have been also three unxpected concerts revealed only some minutes before their beginning: Arcade Fire on Thursday, Mogwai on Friday and Haim on Saturday.

Among the 55000 persons coming and watching the shows, the outfit were quite comfortable: long fluent dresses, mini dresses, cropped top with shorts, cropped pants. All weared with texan boots, ankle boots and sneakers. The main trend seen is probably that of the “athleisure”, a good mix between sport and fashion.

Hallo Sunshine

The mirrored style is an undisputed trend for the SS17 season. In all the fashion shows, from Milan to Paris, light-reflecting textures have been presented. Also the surfaces of shoes and sandals are sprinkled with gold, silver, bronze and pink dust for a shiny and metallic effect.

The Vegetable Orchestra

The Vegetable Orchestra is really something totally new which has impressed me. It performs on instruments made of fresh vegetables. The utilization of various ever refined vegetable instruments creates a musically and aesthetically unique sound universe. The Vegetable Orchestra was founded in 1998. Based in Vienna, it plays concerts in all over the world. There are no musical boundaries for the Vegetable Orchestra, it can fuse the most diverse music styles: contemporary music, beat-oriented House tracks, experimental Electronic, Free Jazz, Noise, Dub. The musical aim of the ensemble expands consistently,

The ensemble is a mix of people with different artistic backgrounds: musicians, visual artists, architects, designers, media artists, writers. A concert of the Vegetable Orchestra appeals to all the senses. And at the end of the concert the audience is offered fresh vegetable soup...really amazing!

"Pink: it was love at first sight"

This spring summer season the pink colour must find a place in women’s wardorobe. It has been proposed in every shade. From bold and vibrant pink, which can have the same sensuality of red without being too aggressive and reminds us Barbie’s world, bubble gum and candies, to powder and softer pink, usually associated with tenderness and romanticism.

Then, when meeting the salmon nuance, the powder pink transforms itself in what the Pantone’s Spring Summer 2017 Color Report has called “Pale Dogwood”, a delicate and rifined colour with a drop of gold inside, very sophisticated, which transmits purity and innocence, perfect to mix with silver, platinum and ivory tones.
